View Full Version : Good source for Corroplast sheets?

Can anyone share their "best known methods" for obtaining corroplast? Is there anyplace to get smaller quantites affordably? I was debating designing some of my own shapes but with a cursory look, I could not find anyplace that carries the stuff.

Denver Sign Supply should be a good source. I have used them in the past for other stuff but not Corroplast. At a cst of $.94 per sheet of 18"x24" it is cheap stuff.
http://www.denversignsupply.com/ go to their catalog, then choose Substrates, then Corrigated Plastics.

I just started calling sign shops and asked them where they got their coro. Turns out the place is close to my office. So I got 3 4'x8' sheets

Sign Warehouse also has Corroplast. Her you get 10 packs or 50 packs. A 10 pack of 36x24 is $22.00 http://www.signwarehouse.com/c-SSCP3624.html

They do, but you will pay a premium! My Home Depots have a 18"x36" sheet for $8.00. For one sheet that isn't bad, but if you need a lot Ouch!

Hmmm, after the elections, I could help clean up... ;-)
I never thought about the sign shops- that would be a place to start. I want to try to avoid the shipping as I am pretty sure that will be pricey unless someone offers free shipping.... I will take a look at the online places also...

My Home Depot has white 48 x 36 for $8. Better than James Depot but still not a deal if you need multi sheets. I got one and I think I'll need one more.

Check your local industrial plastic suppliers- I get mine through the local branch of Regal Plastic: http://www.regalplastic.com/ 4x8 sheets of 4mm thick under $20 and 10mm thick under $30.

How do you all secure coroplast from the wind? Sometimes our winter storms come not only with snow but with 30-50mph winds. I tried a couple relatively small signs with it over the past two years and each time, they've either broken or blown away. It's kind of neat stuff, but I haven't figured out how to mount it securely enough yet.

Yeah, we hit the Henry Doorly up there once a year also, not to mention the old market and the trains in the botanical gardens.
Dave- I make pvc frames for everything, then do small holes (usually with a phillips screwdriver or drill) and use zip ties to affix the coroplast to the frames. I did a rack of angels on the roof, a Linus cutout and 20 snowflakes this year without a failure. We had some 40mph gusts in one storm and they stayed put.

Do you have more details on how you secured it and what size/shape it was?
Here is a video showing more wind than that without problem:

All my coro items were purchased through www.holidaycoro.com I have used David's coro trees (10 of them last year) along with a full 4x4' talking rudolf, tune-to sign and dim headlights sign. I was very pleased with the durability and quality of his products.

Dave- I tried to find example pictures of how I mounted my stuff, and these were the best two I could find. You can see the pcv frame I made for the angel choir, and in the second pic, you can see the zip tie loops, two in the middle, going to the pcv stem, and one in a lower corner to prevent rotation.

Thanks. It looks like I just didn't secure them well enough. I drove some wires into the ground and mounted the coro on top of them, but I guess over time, the wind must have bent the wires enough so that they finally caught the wind, which pulled them off the wires.

For 4mm coro you really can only use 9ga wire - it's just large enough to "grab" onto the interior of the flutes but not be too large as to damage the flute - a good friction fit. 9ga is also strong enough to prevent bending (you'll need the neccessary amount depending on the overall size). I'd look for "H" frame stakes for standard coroplast signs.

That is an excellent solution - it looks like the PVC is flexible enough (like a tree is) but still stiff enought to hold up the design.

It was the H-frame stakes that gave way! I like boyelroy11's PVC solution, too.

If you are shopping for coroplast search for sign supply shops and not sign shops. I bought from sign supply usa which is an outfit that sells to sign stores. They have locations all over the US. You might try using google with "sign supply" and the name of your city or state. Even if they say wholesale only there is no penalty for asking. I think I paid around $12 for a 4x8 sheet, but that was 3 yrs ago. They even have it in colors and different thichnesses. I got lucky with a warehouse only a mile from my house.

If you do not mind a little clean up, the local bus company is a good stop. I can get the old advertising signs that are mounted to the bus for free. Usualy needs the sign peeled off and then cleaned. Great for short and wide type projects like a "Merry Christmas" sign.

Thank you! I have been wondering how I was going to mount some home-made snowflakes on my roof - your pvc rig seems like a perfect solution. I'll probably double-up the uprights so I can fasten both sides of the coro.
BTW, I got some 4'x8' sheets from my local sign shop for $15 ea.

Have to thank Bruce for the Regal Plastics tip.
Wife had a doctors appt so I tagged along and we went to DesMoines.
4x8 sheets of clear were only 9.92 each.
They only had 4 sheets so I took them all.
Add tax and order processing charge, I got 4 sheets for 50.01
If you have a location near you, this has to be your best option.

That's not bad at all for even small quantities of white coro, let alone clear which is usually about 20-30% more than white. Several hundred sheets of white runs in the upper 7's to mid-8 range right now.

let me tell you something... its NEVER NEVER bad to ask for a handout!! lol...
i told a local plastics company that I was doing a christmas show and that i needed some coro sheets... i told them i didnt care what color as long as they werent all bent up
i told them that i was raising money for a local charity...
they promptly asked what sizes i needed... i told them i needed to make about 25-30 2 ft squares.
they GAVE me 65 2 ft squares
they called them cut offs
they are trimmings from other big orders... they cut them to the exact 2x2 dimentions and boxed them up
good deal eh!
by the way, cutoffs are usually discarded. so that is a term you might want to use to get a deep discount if your willing to buy smaller stuff like i was

I did just that recently. Our lobby was being redone and the construction company used some 4x8 white coroplast sheets to block off people from the construction zone. Just before they finished- I asked, and they were happy to let me haul the sheets away. Only had a few holes in the corners from zip-ties so now I am trying to figure out exactly what I want to do with them...
The end cuts are a good idea- however, I'm not sure if I will collect donations for charity- but I bet eventually I will do that but I am not sure what sort of traffic I will get being out in the boonies... So many ideas, so little time!

Another spot I've found for coroplast is ebay....sounds old-school and obvious but I found someone selling 18"x24" - 50 of them with shipping was somehting like $80 which rivals most places that ship. I can build 9-11 of the figures I want for this price. To get a better price (and pay shipping) I would have to spend twice the amount to get a price break. ...for what it's worth.

True on the shipping -- I find that on smaller sizes shipping is more managable. The 4'x8' shipping is outrageous. Glad you found somewhere local - I am looking in my area haven't found any yet.

Negoatiate what? He's probably paying at least $10 for it when you figure in shipping. $15 is a good deal! A 30x40 at HD or Lowes will cost you $10.

I use coroplast for building "disposable" radio control model airplanes, so have bought quite a bit of it - we had two plastics places, one kept a lot of coro in stock, the other didn't. The one that didn't was around $15-16 a sheet, because they basically ordered it for me - the one that stocked it was about $11 with tax, as I recall. Something to keep in mind.

ALSO....
...let's not forget that it's a HUGE election year. There are going to be more campaign signs out there than the DMV has stop signs. Most will be one-timers and probably not reusable so all you need to do is contact the respective campaign for permission to go pick 'em up.

Just an update for those in the southern Ohio or Indiana area looking for reasonably priced Coro. Try the following vendor. White Coro allows light and color to shine through (it is effectively translucent). Most people use the 4mm variety. I believe you can get Coro sheets with special backings, which would block light but I don't believe that's what is sold at Home Depot. Those would be special order.
