Everyone on the list that has not verified has been sent a pm asking them to do so. The major of you have already verified. My weekday off is Monday so I will wait till next Monday morning and anyone not verified will be removed and the quotes will be called in for the verified amount of units. I think this is fair as I don't want to see this coop draw out but I don't want anyone thats put in to miss out either. Whats everyone elses thoughts of a fair timeline? is a week and two weekends long enough?

RJ
12-14-2007, 05:32 PM
I sent out a second notice to those not verified and warned them of the deadline. Monday morning I will check and since I have quoted out 60 units I will look to backfill any unverified ones with people from the second coop. I will then finallize the quotes in the days following christmas and post the amount for the units and request payment. I will order as soon as everyone is paid up but no later than the 7th of Jan. Once everything is recieved on my end I will begin packing. At the time I am ready to ship I will find the cost to ship your package and request paypal of the cost to ship to you. Once this is recieved you shippment will go out.

I have done a lot of work to insure the wait time on parts will not be excessive but it has required me to order from a couple of suppliers as one part from mouser was on a 40 week lead time. I found them in stock for 2 cents more at digikey. Since I will have to order from both I worked throught the list to find what else I could get from them to cut down the wait time. I believe I have the lead time down to about 5 weeks if nothing changes in the next three weeks when we order. This should make the order go out to you sometime after the middle of February. I can not control the parts suppliers as you know so this is based on their info and with a few extra weeks put in to hedge. I will keep everyone up to date as the order proceeds so you know exactly what is happening.

Just realized a typo in the above post I type "quoted out 60 units" and it should of read 69 units as this was the original amount on the coop. appears we may have as many as 11 units availible for people on the second coop to pick up. I will notify them via PM tommorow morning and have them send me their info. I should have a price posted up here maybe by tommorrow evening for the units minus shipping costs.

RJ
12-17-2007, 12:04 PM
Ok heres what I got:

I can not get exact shipping cost on two suppliers so there maybe a $1 - $2 we have to add or subtract from the shipping to you.

The cost of the units is just barely under the window of $80 - $85 I said it would be:

$79.81 each for the kit and then you have to pay paypal fee as I forgot that on the Pcb for the dmx convertor oops. So it will come out to :

$82.42 including the fees and I will require the cost to ship your units to you at time of shipping.

I hope the next order we can shave a few dollars more off of it again as the setup fees for the pcb will not be charged. I also will know exactly what the shipping is.

I can place the orders anytime we have everyone paid so you can begin sending your paypal payments to jordanra@embarqmail.com if you have already verified with me and are a member of the coop. Please do not send money to me if you are not verified on the first post as I will not know who you are.

We do need to have the order out of here soon enough that none of the quotes I have expire. so The lastest is the first days of January to be paid and I will put the orders in that week.

Thanks

RJ
12-21-2007, 08:40 AM
We are making progress as almost half are paid. I will shoot out reminder Pm's next week to make sure we do not come up to the last day or so and have a bunch not paid.
RJ

RJ
12-21-2007, 02:09 PM
OK I was intending to wait till everyone was paid to order anything but one suppiler is getting low of one item that if we let them get where they can't fill the order we have a 12 week lead time to get them. This is ok for the next coop as we will pull them under there order point so it will work out good but not so good for this one. So I am going to go ahead and order the parts were getting from them with my own money. They are a smaller order than mouser.

RJ
12-26-2007, 05:15 PM
The cut off date for being paid is the Third of Jan. Any units not paid for will be offered to the next on the list on this date. I will put the rest of the orders in on the 7th. I have pm reminders out.

Thanks

RJ

RJ
12-30-2007, 09:55 PM
I have sent out repeat reminder Pm's to the few that have not paid for the units yet. The parts I went ahead and paid for to make sure and get them will be here by the weekend so I will get them seperated and packed this weekend to help speed things along when the other parts that are not ordered yet get here. With no problems from the suppliers we should have the units out at least by the beginning of march. I will keep you all up to date.

RJ

RJ

Ok to bring everyone up to date as I had said I order all the remaining parts today. Everything is on order and most should arrive the beginning of next week. The pain then begins of waiting on the BO parts and hoping they are truthful in there estimates. I doubt they are. This is why I started this coop so early. To help I will go ahead and seperate, count and package all parts that are received to eliminate as much wait for you as possible. As soon as everything ships I can get the shipping cost and see how we came out. I will then let you know what your shipping cost will be for the cont U.S. as it appears the flat rate shipping usps is the best way for that so it would be the flat rate plus a reduction or increase depending on the shipping cost to me of the parts. It looks as if I may be able to get two into one flat rate box (heavy box LOL). If so it will cost the same to ship two as it cost to ship one. The people out of the cont. US will have to wait until I can have it weight and find out the cost to there locations before I can tell.

I will keep you up to date as I have information.

Quick update,

I have all of the in stock items in hand. I received 69 Lynx Cases today. I got the mouser order of the numbers they had yesterday so It's just PCB boards and BO parts we wait on now. I will be doing some sorting and packing this weekend on what I have.

RJ

RJ
01-15-2008, 09:14 PM
I packed everything I could up this weekend to speed things along. I then got an email from mouser informing me the 57 BO transformers got an update on expected delivery to them. 4/10/08! so this was a problem. I found them in stock at only 4 cents more somewhere else so they are coming and we are back on track.

RJ

RJ
01-18-2008, 02:38 PM
Recieved the transformers. Did end up costing me more as I forgot that the shipping from mouser was free on them and I had to pay $35 for shipping on them but I could not have you wanting 4 more months so you do what you have to do. When the PCB's arrive I will have enought stuff to ship about 15 units complete so I will start down the list with the first to order and work down the list. May have some out before Febuary starts

RJ

RJ

Recieved the PCB's today but since I don't get home till after 7:00 pm I just got one of mine together to test. and all is good. heres a pic. Should be able to get some out this coming week.

Could of saved yourself a buck and asked. I always had a heatsink on it. Kinda hard to dissapate that much heat without one. The 18 amp test would of overheated the rectifier without it. Now if you wanted to keep it in 10 amps a pasive little 1.1 x 1.1 heatsink would work but that is to limiting.

stephenwolf
01-19-2008, 07:58 PM
You didn't have a fan on it in your other pictures that you have posted...

I like the fan, it makes it look cooler... get it? cooler... :-)

RJ
01-19-2008, 09:39 PM
No but I had a heatsink and fan on it when it ran. i think kiwi is still running just the original heatsink. I found this as cheaper and it looks cool when it lights up the blue Led's. Get it Cool!

skygodtj
01-20-2008, 01:25 AM
RJ, it looks good! I'm wonderin'.. with the fan... will the case be vented to allow the heat(what there is) to escape/swap the air moved by the fan?

Would you be able to post a list of the people that have orders? We'd be able to see abt how far down the list we are..

Good job!

TJ

RJ
01-20-2008, 02:50 AM
The case does not have holes other that the strain reliefs for the power cables and cat5. The heat is transfer very effectively ou the case by the loss to the ambiant air over the large surface of the plastic case. It is not that much heat for it to remove. It just needs some air flow over the sink to get it transfered.

If you check the post for the coop you can see where you are in the line. although to speed thing I may do it by the order people get the postage paid so I am not waiting.

Jim

I don't know yet. I have been boxing up kits all weekend and the post office is closed till tuesday which is when I have to work. I will run one down tuesday at lunch and find out what the 48 states will cost and post it. I have to do each out of the states one seperate as the cost is different for each of them. There are only a handful of complete kits yet so only a few will go out until some Backordered parts come in. I can send two in one flat rate box and this is the way they are going out as this was the cheapest since these things are heavy. The post office will be losing on these as two in a flat rate box feels like bricks. LOL

RJ
01-21-2008, 02:57 PM
Ok some of you recieved PM about shipping cost. These were the people starting down the list that I had enough units to ship. Briant please empty you PM folder and email me as I could not send you a PM.

I only had enough to fill 5 out of 17 peoples orders. Remember I never expected to ship any this early as I was targeting Early march from the beginning to ship anything. So be patient we are ahead of schedule.

This is how the postage works. I am using Flat Rate boxes to send them as they are heavy and it was the cheapest way and you get it in 2-3 days.

I had some extra shipping and such on some of the parts orders. so I adjusted the cost to $11.50 per shipment to keep me from eating to much.

In the 48 states the cost is $8.95 for a flat rate box which will hold up to two Lynx Kits.

So if you are in the 48 states for every two Lynx's you have you owe me $11.50 shipping. If you have one you still owe me $11.50

The $11.50 includes the "coop payment fees" AKA the paypal fee! LOL

It means you are paying $1.91 over the postage fee and that the Lynx cost you under $81 complete not including shipping and fees.

As soon as I find the price for the folks outside the US I will PM them with it.

I will mark the first post with the M after your name as I get your postage fees.

Last email I got on back ordered parts said the parts should be shipping out to me in the next two weeks so I hope to ship the rest in about 3 weeks if that comes true.

Guess what? I got a box today from Florida. It had two Lynx in it!!!!

Now the cool part. I have given myslef a $300 budget this year for DIYC. Since my wife has seen neither the Lynx shipping box nor the Grinch DMX converter. That tmeans I have spent nothing this year so far!!!!!! Still have $300 to go!!

Oh yeah, and the Lynx freestyle is a beta so it doesn't really count against the $300.

Besides she spends lots of money too. Last month she spent nearly $800 on food. So my $300 for the year is miniscule and its okay if I go over:rolleyes:

There is no change with this Coop. I have been packing parts for it this weekend and am still waiting on one part number on backorder to ship so I can finish the rest of them and get them shipped out. Because of the no edit thing it's hard to do a current list of paid. So here's where we are at:

5 peoples units are already gone out and most if not all have them.

Only one person in the US has not paid postage at this time and they have been PM'ed and reminded. The out of US people were just sent a PM telling them the cost for the shipping.

I am waiting on the Terminal blocks to come in from backorder and I can finish the coop. I have everything but them ready so it's drop them in a bunch of bags and them load the units, close them, pack them and mail them.

Update,

Mouser still shows the Terminal blocks arriving to them on 1/31/2008. I am still in wait mode till they arrive here to me. I hope to be able to ship all remaining units out with in a day or two of recieving the last part. The three that haven't got there shipping paid try to get it done before then so I can get your units out immediately. I don't want anyone waiting any longer than they need be.

I got everything packed up yesterday as much as could be done. Then I was looking at the next person on the list and they were only getting one. So I remembered I had ordered some extra Lynx parts when I was doing the proto's. So I though.. Man if I could come up with just two I could seen that box out.

So I went and started digging. Guess what I found a bunch. I had order extras a few to many times I guess. So more Lynx's left the nest today. Those people should see them this week as it's priority mail. All except for the poor lonely box that went the other direction to the land down under. It will most likely not be there this week. But first of next. Hope to have the part this week and then the rest will leave next monday.

Only one person not paid up on shipping. I will pm them again I hope nothing bad has happened as they have been out of touch for a while.

It is Lynxes.

While the Lynx is a animal I used the term more do to it's mythology Being so fitting i thought.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx_%28mythology%29

I am glad you got it, It has many more friends going out this weekend. I truely hope that everyone enjoys them as much as I did my four this year.

We will be putting another coop together for them when it's all worked out. I will have to find two people to run coop's as I doubt anyone wants to run the Lynx and Freestyle coops both at the same time.

I will post here on DIYC for those not on the other forum so you know when we start another coop for them.

Let me know how the building goes and what we can improve on the design.

A thank you for giving my toy a try!

I haven't received any feedback on the ones that have them as far as if the packing was OK. So heres hopeing I'm doing alright pacjing them up. RJ

You forgot the jumpers! Man! I had to reach all the way across my desk and pull 2 off of a HDD paperweight! gosh. :-)

I built one last night, and it was more soldering then I thought it would be, but I had fun doing it. I just wish I could get my dmx pro to work right so I could test this baby out. :-( Other then the jumpers, everything looks great, good work RJ. I can't tell you if it works though... Maybe tomorrow...

ps. anyone want to help me with troubleshooting my Enttec pro? :-) The stinking thing decided it didn't like me anymore. Now all I get is an error that says the com port is not accessible; on 2 computers; after many driver re-installs, etc.

Thanks again RJ.

Sorry about the jumpers! I hope thats the worst I did but I know theres not much chance of that. Thats why I ordered extra parts and have envolopes on standby in case.

You have got to be kidding me! you mean you got one ready and your dongle died. Man that is the worst bit of luck. And I wanted to hear another one was alive.

Simple things first:
1) Double check your plug-In setup in Vixen, make sure you are selecting the correct comm port
2) Eliminate any other USB devices

If they all look good then use the Enttec DMXUSBPro Utility and see if you can communicate to it outside of Vixen.

All of the Lynx kits that had not gone out yet went out today. I believe everyone should see them by the weekend. If you have not received yours buy wed next week let me know as something is wrong. The farthest any had to go was Canada.

Its alive! ITS ALIVE!!!! [insert mad scientist laugh here] :-)

oh, ps. just so everyone knows: the tabs on the mosfets are hot (and by hot I don't mean temperature, I mean they have power to them) so don't touch them like I did when the channels are on. :-) well, unless you like that feeling.

Ah Yeah! maybe thats why the text all around them says Danger High Voltage! and the manual says don't operate it with the case open! good thing it wan't 240 AC!

Just razing you but seriously did you get blinky? Hope you like it as much as I like mine!

And you will find the Mosfet run no more than about 100 F even loaded bu they do bite as they are not isolated. Not needed since we don't need heat sinks so we wont be connecting them to each other.

Great!, everyone should have them in the next few days. If not let me know so we can find out why. I think by wed next week if you have not seen yours contact me as I have no more to send out they are all in the mail or at the location. Let me know if there is anything I can do to improve the kit as we are setting up the next coop. At this point we are doing it the same.

Mine arrived "down under" last Wednesday, I missed the postie though. I picked it up today at the post office, it all seems to be intact.

Now all I have to do is buy a decent soldering iron and all the accessories for it, teach myself to solder, assemble the Lynx, buy an Enttec Pro and all the plugs and cabling to connect it and the Lynx to my PC, run Cat5e cable from my PC to the front of the house, buy all the Christmas lights and extra plugs and cables to connect them to the Lynx and lastly, (this sounds like the easy part) teach myself to use Vixen and setup the Christmas lights.

Sigh.

Nothing to it at all then.

Don't forget the tutorials in the Wiki on soldering, it's like having a teacher.
