The pcb has the symbol that looks like (] on it .
Does the anode or the cathode go to the flat side ?
Thanks in advance!

The LED should also have a flat side...
But the way to test it is to solder everything else into place on the PCB, and then connect it to your controller (but don't attach AC to the SSR). Then, place the LED into the holes on the PCB both ways, and see which way makes it light up.

My led's were round and I haven't gotten my controller yet. I was hoping to finish my ssr's before the controller arrived.

The cathode on your LED (shorter lead) would go to the flat side on the symbol.
You should double check the connections on the PCB. I don't have the layout in front of me, but I do remember that pin 1 of the RJ45 is power and pin 7 is ground. The LED cathode goes to ground (either directly or indirectly through a resistor), which is pin 7 of the RJ45. Likewise, the LED anode ultimately goes to +5, or pin 1 (square pad) of the RJ45.

on the SSROZ board, the Long Lead goes in the Round Hole, the short lead, goes in the hole with a Square pad.
if in doubt, trace the power, on the SSROZ board there is a single 5 VDC trace on the left hand side of the board, and the ANODE (long Lead) of the Diode connects to that.
The current flow is:
Pin # 1 of the RJ45,
5 Volt rail,
Anode of the LED,
680 ohm resistor
Gnd (pin # 7)

So... If I soldered them backwards, the SSR would work but the LED wouldn't light?
(I'm asking because my SSRs work but the LED on the SSRs do not light)

You are correct!

True,
BUT - You can use a solder sucker or de-soldering braid / wick to unsolder the LED, flip it around and resolder and you're good to go!

I love de-soldiering braid it works so good! Cleans all the soldier right off.
You could reference the hardware design guidelines in the wiki...

There is some good info there.

You'll love Surface mount then!!!

the longer wire is the positive the shorter one is the negative
