Guys,
been looking at the Pegboard idea and well. its a means to an end but thats about all. Has anyone considered a Circuit board that could carry 16 x 16 LED's and linking 3 of them together.
Wouldnt be a hard board to design and link together, maybe put a 10-12mm spacing instead of the standard spacing and the board souldnt be that big.
anyway. its an idea that im thinking about instead of doing it the standard way.
what do people think?

Are you suggesting a coop for a serial based array of LED's for Renard debug? I'd sign up to buy one if that is what you are getting at.
Hes talking about the Ledtriks. We have looked at that but it was too expensive and with the possible new design everyone kind of was I think in wait and see mode. I have found if you want a Ledtiks now and want to move ahead that using the copper tape and pegboard is more like using a PCB. You stripe horizontal under the led with the copper tape that you should be able to find in a thread from on the forum. solder all you led legs to it like it is a trace. then you spray these with plasticote paint. to insulate it. Now lay you vertical traces beside the peg holes and and solder the other led leg and then solder you cat 5 to the ends of the tape. This is what I did on the last Ledtriks I built and it is in my show and is the best one I have. It was also the quickest build. It has the tight pegboard that the Leds pop into and this keeps them pointed striaght and it has been 100% reliable. If the new setup works out this will not be an issue any longer.

-Here is an interesting product I found on the internet that is an 8x8 matrix in a single package and it is not too expensive at $1.80 per grid...

Wingman, it looks like that grid is a little over one inch by one inch. At that size, I'm not sure how close you'd have to get the display to your audience.

As I mentioned in another thread, I have a good source for inexpensive PCBs. I'd say that the cost of my supplier is literally 1/6th of what AdvancedPCB can do - including shipping. And the boards are very nicely done - soldermask, silk, two sided (up to 21 layers if you're so inclined).
See, I have a keen interest in building one of the first RGB LED-lit Christmas signs on my roof next season. I don't plan on a huge display since my house is on a main street, but I'd love to jump in and do some awesome layouts and design work to help further "the cause". I know the LEDTriks design isn't currently RGB, but here is hoping!
BTW, I'm not a computer programmer; rather an analog designer. I may not be able to program the thing, but I can build a mean power supply. :)

After spending the past 2 days laying copper tape and soldering the anodes, spraying with plastikote then doing the same with the cathodes i finally finished it...didnt spray the cathodes as yet, tested it all first.Bugga....some of the plastikote has melted between the ttape so instead of just one LED lighting up i might get 1 or 5 sparking up....back to the drawing board,,,this time i shall solder copper wire between the cathodes above the copper tape and when i hit it with the plastikote hopefully it will be right...Coop for PCB's to do these and my hand is up...lol....i can handle the soldering....

I've searched but not found the copper tape you've used to attach the LED grid.
I've found #517-1181-3/8 on Mouser that seems like it would do what you've described.
Thoughts?

I bought my copper tape through Ebay Bob. came from the UK. For 5 rolls at 1/4 inch at 13 feet it is cheaper than buying 1 roll from Mouser. i bought 2 lots to do the LEDTriks board. Item number is

Thanks, Synnie.
I took a look. It appears to be a 13' roll. I'm wondering if that's enough to do two panels.
The Mouser tape is 18 yds, and just a couple of bucks more.

I saw one on there for 5 rolls.
You see the same one?

You're right! It is 5 x 13' rolls!

Did you do two panels?
Edit: Wow! I finally stopped long enough to caculate the number of feet needed!
((96"X16")+(16"X96"))/12 = 256' !!
I'll need 4 lots!!
