I'm hoping one day to build a CNC PCB router. I've seen tons of ideas on home etching but don't believe I've ever seen anything on home solder masks. It's not a crucial step in the finalization of a home made board, but sure would be nice. I'd imagine it'd need to be some form of photo-related transfer.

And the second part is about a silkscreen. Seems real easy if I use black as the color, but has anyone ever come up with a system to get a lighter color? Perhaps from a color laser printer?

I have heard of this done in yellow. As for solder mask you need dry film..and if you go this route, you might as well be etching.

I route the silkscreen sometimes depending on how nice I want it to look or who its for. You just have to be carefull that you don't cut anything you wanted to keep, like traces or splitting the ground plane.
