The D-Light USB RS-485 adapter can pass DMX-512 without any issues. LightShowPro and Freestyle DMX software both see the device (My Windows 7 Ultimate installation automatically had FTDI drivers, so no additional download was needed). Since the only DMX-512 equipment I had on hand were some borrowed intelligent lights and lasers, and they used XLR 3-pin connectors, and the D-Light dongle was RJ45, I needed an adapter. After a bit of searching the forums and the pinouts on the web, I made an adapter. Attached is a pic for easy reference.
Basically, you connect as follows (color is assuming TIA/EIA-568B cable):
RJ45 pin 4 (blue)-> XLR pin 3 (DMX512 Data +ve)
RJ45 pin 5 (blue w/white stripe) -> XLR pin 2 (DMX512 Data -ve)
RJ45 pin 6 (green) -> XLR pin 1 (GND)

Unless I'm mistaken, the D-Light USB is just a USB->RS485 adapter. I'm curious to see if using LSP or Freestyle and this adapter, you were able to control the DMX fixtures. If the computer can put out the signal changes at a high enough bit rate, then you can output DMX with this simple adapter. However, you're depending on the computer to do most of the work, much like the Enttec OpenDMX adapter.
For long term and "less dependent on the CPU load on your computer" use, a dedicated DMX dongle, such as RPM's or a commercial version like the Enttec DMX USB PRO, is recommended.

The above is personal opinion/recommendation.
I've been using my OpenDMX for years with no problems.

The intelligent light and laser seemed to work fine and very responsive. I wouldn't use the dongle under much stress, especially when integrated in a large sequence, but seemed to work well enough for my testing since I don't have any DMX controllers yet.
