Just a reminder to your members that our LED group buy is closing on January 31st. Visit http://www.MagicInTheSky.com/lighting for more details. This is a great way to add LEDs to your 2011 display at a very low price. You can email Ryan@magicinthesky.com with any questions.

to be honest with you unless you need the lights before November then buy them but if you can wait then go to costco they cost the same and are of just about the same quality. Otherwise you can get LEDs at a after holiday sale discount for alot less....(i know these are commercial grade leds with about double the bulb life span)

I don't like the fact it is being called a group buy. I think its directly misleading and it's clearly a for-profit venture. For that reason alone, I would stick with purchasing from Paul at CDI.

Jacob,
Why don't you just be clear about what it is? We certainly welcome new vendors here, but if you are making any profit from the sale of the lights, it os disingenuous to call it a group buy.

I think "GROUP BUY" is a misunderstanding on their part......... after all it is (hopefully for them) a large group buying a single line of product.

I dont think pricing is bad (less than CDI) and you dont have to buy full cases.

What i dont like is the lack of firm shipping pricing (dont know if CDI does the same... any help ???) nothing in the order form addressing how much it will cost, I did email them and got a aproximation for what im was thinking of ordering.

AFTER saying that i DID order about $150.00 of lights (hope my faith was not misplaced) and will update on how close the shipping prices came to the estimate.

What happened "Hi my name is Jacob J Dell and I am new to this forum"? ...What about making your first post the day you join about something other than your wallet?

I thought this was a community not a market share! I thought we had rules.

Just my 2 cents.

what i think happened is Jacob just joined as himself.

The thread offering to sell LED strings has been around for about a month probably under an different "member". He works for (or owns) a firework important business and is using his connections in chins (or somewhere over there) to supply LEDs to us at good pricing. He (they) have sent samples to other members for testing and i think the samples turned out to be of good quality and to me at a fair price.

So give this guy a break...... with the site having the problems it is... maybe this was the way he thought would get to the members who wanted to get into the order. Not what we are used to around here.

I think he just posted here announcing the order is about to be sent and get in if you want.

I don't have any connection to him or the company.

REMEMBER SANTA IS WATCHING DO YOU WANT TO BE ON THE NAUGHTY OR NICE LIST???

I believe if you read the history of his and Ryan's posts (mostly on PC), you will see where they are coming from. Also, if you check their prices, you will find that they are MUCH cheaper that what Paul or anyone else for that matter is charging for comparable merchandise. They are offering LED stringers at a fair price. This is their first time doing it. If you want to participate, do so. If not, don't. We don't need to automaticaly jump to conclusions about their business ethics or intent. BTW, on the CDI Pre-Sale, you don't know what shipping is until it is sent either..................

What history?, This was his first and only post on here. I made no accusations about his business ethics or intent. It doesn't look like a Group Buy and since the post was from a brand new member, it certainly didn't appear correct. I don't think it would have taken much to explain the situation. I agree that I could have been less suspicious, but in my defenese, I really had no way of knowing.

I actually had no problem with the Shipping, because I thought I saw it on the site and I though I don't buy LEDs, I though prices were pretty good.

Kelly, my post was not directed at you. As I said, there is a lengthy thread over on PC about this venture. I agree that using the term "Group Buy", (according to DIYC rules and understanding), may not be technicaly correct, they are making a large wholesale purchase, and offering a great deal on LED light stringers to the Chirstmas Lighting Community.

And just to be clear, every time I placed an order with Paul at CDI, I got a shipping quote from them. Now, I usually call them, rather than do the web thing, and so get that real-time quote. And it's never been much different from the actual quote.

I just think that this isn't really a group buy, at least as defined on DIYC. It is a vendor pre-order.

Sorry to have caused confusion with my post. To clear up a few things we are collecting a group of buyers to purchase LED's in China at what we believe to be a fair price for Christmas light fans and a profit to us. Planet Christmas was down for longer than expected so we just wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to look at us. As for the shipping we will contact each person at time of shipping to select the cheapest method for them UPS, USPS, FedEx ground what have you. Thanks for the discussion and questions.
p.s. to moderator: if I have posted the item in the wrong spot please move to the appropriate one.

This is a for profit post
It is not a group buy
It is a pre order
Just because their new does not mean their evil, and does not mean their good, only time will tell.
If you trust them buy them, if not don't.
It seems like a good price, I wish I had extra money in my christmas budget for a small order.
If anybody buys any of these lights, would they please leave a review of their service, shipping, and product review.

Thanks for clarifying Jacob. If I were ready to make the Switch to LED, I would be all over them. I think they are a great price.

@Griffixdc - I don't think you can even try to compare pre-season pricing with After-Christmas closeout. Most of us had no LEDs available during closeouts. Heck, I didn't even see any Incans in qtys worth speaking of.

I decided to take the plunge, and placed an order with Magic In The Sky (http://www.magicinthesky.com/lighting). I was also looking for some LED strings on White Wire, which are not on their order page. Their vendor can supply them if they get a minimum qualifying order. In an email this morning, Ryan told me that the are only about half way to meeting that minimum. So, if you need some LED's on White Wire, email Ryan at Ryan@magicinthesky.com (Ryan@magicinthesky.com) and tell him what you need. Only a few days left..........

The CDI presale contains other lights you just need to scroll to the 2nd and 3rd pages after clicking "UPDATED LED MINILIGHTS & ICICLE LIGHTS" link.

As for the price increase for Magic in the Sky, according to their post on PC, they filled the container that the pricing was based on, exceeding their expectations. They had to request a new quote which is where the price increase came from.

JUST A FYI.

They raised their "advertised presale prices" overnight last week, with no advanced warning nor even a mention on their website that their presale prices that were advertised as being in effect from Dec 15 - Jan 31 suddenly increased, (but the presale at higher prices continues). Is this an ethical way to run a business? This is a new vendor, just thought you might want to know what their business morals are. These are just my opinions, as I looked at the prices one night, calculated what I could afford, the next day started to place an order and the prices were HIGHER! No explanation on their website.

If you read back on the threads - Ryan did post that a few days before the prices went up that the container was close to getting full. They did have to re-quote another container (that was much better than just saying sorry, orders full up already.)

I did order after the prices went up, but they were still SIGNIFICANTLY lower than CDI (still feeling !@# after 2008 with them) and didn't want to even think about LED Holiday Lighting.

I'm not to sure how it works around you, but, my gas station raises the price overnight all the time.

Also, their location in San Antonio is also close enough for me to be able to make it driveable to actually pickup the lights in person (Car rental + gas would be cheaper than shipping)

I posted this in this years thread but think that this may be a better spot. Has anyone tried the C7 series? It says "these have a single LED for each lens making them dimmer." I'm curious how dim they are?
