I have an idea for a project and I'd like to play around with a few of these for a while.
Right now I want to see if I can accomplish the programming aspect of it. Once I've accomplished that I would build one of these I/O controllers and a bunch of SSRs.
What I want to do is play a MIDI file by mapping output channels to individual notes of each instrument, such that each instrument would be assigned a subset of channels (possibly 16 / instrument). One would then be able to create a keyboard that play along by flashing keys or something to that effect.
I don't care if someone has done this before I'd like to do it myself. I don't have the space, tools, or time to make the SSRs myself, but if I get this working satisfactorily, I'll have until next christmas to get the system up and running. Right now I just want 8 outputs to control directly from the parallel port I/O pins. Then I could reuse the SSRs later in the full-scale project.
Also, I'd be more than happy to share whatever software I write with the community.
