Day after christmas I bought out local Lowes, Home Depot and Big Lots. I ended up with 100s of clear incandecents. My plan is to use Krylon metals and paint colors I need. I know this is not the best plan, but I also have been unable to land color lights at reduced prices. I am curious your plans for light purchases for 2011, and price you plan on spending on each strand or total for year. FOr example, I might join a co-op if the price were right, but I am unwilling to spend $7 a strand for LEDS, and $2.50 per strand on incadecents...Am I way off base? Maybe I am too cheap...I spent last year almost $700 on lights (including metal, welding, paint, brackets, guywires, stakes, zipcord and wire, etc) and another $700 on controllers (triacs, optos, PCBs, enclosures, USB-serial ports, outlets, etc) I would not be willing to spend much more than this for 2011 (I am approaching 75K lights and 500 channels).

THoughts?

i bought 14,000 incandecent 100ct from walmart, red, blue, white, green and a mix of pink, purple and amber after christmas for a little more then a $1 a set, then about 4,000 LED's, C9's C7's and mini's. total probably around $300..... I was at walmart at 6am when they opened the doors, i acted like i worked there, closed off the isle and took what i wanted lol

Like the "i acted like i worked there, closed off the isle" approach !! I will use that in the future I'm sure.

I am new this year, planned ahead a bit starting in Decmeber so once Jan 1 2011 hit I did get some LEDs at Home Depot (12,000 + or - at around $4.50 per 100) and some incadecents at around $1.50 per 100. Sams club had rolls of 250 clear LED's for $9.91 marked down from around $30 and I grabbed 8 as my very first buy and my wife "limited" me to that many even though there were about 50 rolls there .... after a day of checking around I found that other Sams had them for $19. Back to the first store only to find them all gone! Live and learn.

I am also new this year. I managed to get a flat of blue 100 minis at Walmart in December for about $1.33 for my planned arches. In January I landed about 6 dozen remaining strings of 100 multis (red, green, blue, orange, pink) at Lowe's for $0.72 each. I have been "sorting" them into solid color strings while I watch TV. A bit of a pain, but not too bad. Now I just need a controller... :-P

I've missed out on all local sales for light strings. All I wanted was 20 boxes of clear mini's and 20 boxes of green or blue mini's for my mega tree.

I have found the clear mini's here. Payed about $1.75 a box. Now i just need to locate the blue or green's. (hint hint wink wink)

If figure I will spend about $200 on lights for this years show (my first show). This does not include any parts to build the mega tree, etc, etc.

well i waited at walmart on December 26th ...got there at 5:45am to find out they were opening at 7:00am...so i waited and waited then finally 7:00am hit ....the doors didn't open...7:03 hit the doors didn't open...7:03 and 30 secs hit i see people gathering things in their cart basically all the stuff i wanted. 7:05 and 30 seconds they finally opened the garden center doors......just about everything good by that point was already spoken for ...i did manage to get about 50 boxes of clear mini's and about 10 c9 25 count LEDs but everything else was gone....Pissed me off i was the first customer at walmart for at least 15 mins and was let in a non orderly fashion probably was number 35 by that point....grrrr...good thing home depot had more clears ....no one had colors except for rite aid.

I picked up 25 each of the red, blue and clear incans at walmart, along with about 10 33' rope lights in the same colors. they didnt have any green, which I wanted. I need 24 of the greens still, and about 60 more of the clear. Thats about all that is left on my must have list.. my wish list is about 20 more of each color, and 50 more clear. I am not even going to discuss whats on the rest of the list.

I get a most of my lights from Home Depot.

THe first part of November I got 100 count multi colored LED (dome) for $4.50

Then on Black Friday I got 50 count LED for $2.88. (Cool WHite and MultiColor)

I need about 8000 lights white, red, blue and green. I would Like them to be all LED.

Would any one be interested in seeing if we could generate a group buy through HOME Depot?

I also get vampire plugs at 36.00/100 both male and female. These are from Home Depot with free shipping.

Can't find vampire plugs on the Home Depot site. Is there a model number? If so can you post it. Thanks

The part numbers that I have are:

14-330 Male plugs 100 count
14-331 Female plugs 100 count

THese are the manufacturers part numbers.

I checked and could only find the 14-330 as 14330.

I will check with Home Depot.

at this point looks like pixels. Have enough incandescent minis to do my mega tree and just can't see spending more on minis (no great <$1/box deals around here).

I would get in the CDI pre-order but at this point I predict in a year or two I would regret spending money on non-addressable LEDs..... jmho
