Prior to my recent build of the RPM DMX Dongle. I was reading through all the old posts leading up to it. I vaguely remember coming across a note from RPM about a Wireless DMX option to go with the DMX dongle.

Has there been any work on this? I'm planning next years show and a wireless DMX option would simplify my next channel jump immensely.

check www.diylightanimation.com I used that wireless setup up to 375' with no issues and no lag all year.

Interesting I wonder if he was going to use XBee. What do you mean by "channel jump"?

By Channel Jump, I'm going from my current 4 LOR boards and adding 2 REN48LSD's if not 3.

ron d,

thx. I checked it out. RJ looks like he has a solution. Just need to see if any PCB's are left. Parts list is on mouser and the "MOD" required on the chip to use an external antenna has a video on the wiki.

RJ uses the Microchip RF stuff - it can run at DMX speeds. I have the first generation Rx/Tx modules and they work pretty well - not using them for this year however.

I had done some work on the design but had to sideline it due to time constraints (home renovations, non blinky projects, etc..) and intend to get back to it sometime soon.
One of the problems I had was the original nRF24L01+ modules I was using worked, but had limited range. I have since located a version of this board with an on-board amplifier, so this should no longer be an issue, however, I did lose my initial code when I had a hard drive crash so I will now have to start over.

Thanks for chiming in Robert. I know how those home honey-do lists can get in the way. I promised my other half I would re-do the master bath with Venetian Plaster. The cans have been sitting up there since the end of the summer. I think I'll have to take care of that when the lights are all put away first before my next DIY phase.

The latest versions of RJ's wireless gear doesn't require modifying the RF modules (he is using a newer one). XBEEs won't work if you are trying to send the whole universe as they are too slow.
