Have been wanting to make me a tree for my yard display and this year i was able to get every thing togather to make me one. I used a 8ft satellite for the base and put a 10ft 4 x 4 in the center. Used a 6 1/2" drain cover for the top to hang my hooks off of. used 10 5/16 J-bolts on top. Used the upper ring to hook my lights to. Drilled a hole every 3" and put in 3/16 j-bolts.

Hi:
Great idea. And to think, I used to install those things. As satellites, of course. Never thought of using one as a megatree base.

I used the 4 legged base of an umbrella stand that the wind had destroyed. The center pole is 1 1/4" conduit. The base is a floor flange with 3 big spikes driven into the ground and I used the same type floor flange for the top. I drilled 32 holes around the outside and tied in my light strings with zip ties. It has withstood some 40 mph winds, as of RIGHT NOW. The heighth is 10 feet. The base is PVC.

What a terrific idea on the base! That's a tree that's not going anywhere in the breeze! Well done!
