How do you hook up an SSR to the parallel port?:
1) SSR + in to one of the data pins and SSR -in to a ground like pin 25?
- OR-
2) Is the parallel port open collector so SSR +in goes to 5 v thru a resistor and SSR -in to parallel port data pin?
And, in vixen, for a plugin, do I use a "Basic Parallel"?
Thanks.

I believe there is a way to do this, but most of us use a controller board in-between the parallel port and the SSR.
this is necessary if you want more than (I think) 8 channels. but there is a way to do a few channels directly fron the parallel port.
I'll go do some searching... (I'll be back)

This is probably what you are looking for (or some facsimile thereof)

K, here is the first one I've found:
http://computerchristmas.com/christmas/link-how_to/HowToId-2/LowLimit-0
The second page has pin-outs
There are a few more direct parallel port how to's on the Computer Christmas site. That site is a great place to get started.
If you were wanting more than 8 channels check out the christmas wiki at the top right of this page for controller options.

Thanks, I've been to all those sites. The one you guys posted connects the SSR +in to the PC, so that's the way I'll go.
I've got 3 SSRs wired to a 25 pin connector, I'll try it when I get home, let you know.
