How long should it take to write a 16f688 pic

I am new to pic programming but i just got my pickit 2 clone from Sure in today and programmed 3 pics (at least i thank i did) it only took about 5 sec per pic to write them and verify them both i got no errors.

Just wondering if that sounds about right??

sounds about right - it's a very quick process - it takes longer to bring up the tool and find the file then to program them...

where do you find this PIC programmer...i dont have any boards or boards made yet i just want to have everything i need before i order the BOM

I can't say for sure but I think it is normal, the last one I did was last year. I do remember I took the chip and put it in my board to test it.

Ok thanks guys i will plug them into the renard 64 when i get home tonight and test them out i zapped 2 standard renard firmware chips and 1 diag chip just in case i need it.

That's an outstanding idea -- just keep them handy and use them as needed. It's a swap-out you can do in the field. Maybe this should be a general suggested practice.

I just did the same last week when I got my order of 20 PICs. I burned most of them with the DMX firmware and left a few with he hardcoded starting addresses of my board.

As to BUDUDE. He has been an AWESOME help this season. I send all my thanks out to him.

Well, all I can say is that I've been to seven state fairs, 5 bingo games and one elephant scrubbing contest, but I've never heard of anyone with such incredible capabilities.... I am truly impressed.

@ wayne J when i clicked on that link you gave me ...i noticed other possible pic programmers... do i need any of those are they better does that cheaper one you showed me work for all the controller boards used on this forum?
