I stumbled across this today. It is a 4 TRIAC kit which I found for about $20 on froogle. The kit comes complete with all the parts and a very detailed instructions. It sure if it could be of any use for someone.

I used 2 of these for 4th of july. They worked great. The only down side is the 9v dc that they require.

Easily done with a coop 595. Bring 9v into P2 then move the jumper for the output the ssr is hooked up to.

Brain,

IT seem that the boards are a very differeent design. 9 VDC is supplied to the TRAIC side of the SSR, not the Trigger side.

I, personally, would not use that design. They have used a Photo Transistor , instead of the MOC3023 DIACs that our COOP boards are based on.

plus, for 20 you can purchase about two of our boards. unless on a crunch

I intended the post to be informational not to determine the merit of buying the kit versus a coop. Keep in mind that while many have the technical ability to build coop boards, others would rather spend a little more money on a kit that has easy to understand directions. Besides coops occur periodically whereas this kit is available at any time.

In the end, it might be a option for some.

Ben, i did not mean to imply anything but good.

I do have a concern about feeding the 9V into the TRIAC side of the baord, but that is me.

I have SSR boards available to order most weeks of the year, just so ppl can order as needed.

I'll go back out in the sun and hang lights!

Understood, since there is a push for solutions for the folks who may not be as electronically skilled I thought I would post.

I will continue to watch the snow storm rage outside my window. :)

snow, is that like the ICE in my Fridge that melts in a nano second. Hitting 90 in the shade and 105 on the roof.

So , am I understanding this correctly ...

So for $20.00 , you can buy TWO of the COOP boards complete ( kit form that is with all components ) from here ?

So , who can tell me where I would be able to buy these for that price ( un-assembled , of course )

I think the point they were making is that if you are building 16 SSR boards (64 channels)...then the price is cheap. I think I have about $15 apiece in my SSR assemblies. This includes the outlets, boxes, and stuff. So yes, for a little over $10 each, you can assemble your own SSR PCBs.

$24 guess as to the price of 16 SSR PCBs
$151.47 Parts from mouser for 16 fused SSR boards

If you got into a parts COOP, it might get to be cheaper than $10 per PCB...but the last COOP took VERY long for the parts to come in and get distributed. Might be better to order on your own and pay the extra money if you want it any time soon.

I know I have paid about 10.00 per Coop SSR board and parts. The boards run about $2.00 each on a large Coop buy then the parts at Mouser are about 8.00 at least they were a few weeks ago. Now this past summer a large parts Coop buy brought the parts cost down but thats over. Still at 10.00 cost per 4 channel SSR board and parts is not too bad. I know WJOHN sells the SSR boards but I don't know for how much so shoot him a PM.

Just ordered a Grinch and 16 SSR's from wjohn and I paid just under $45 shipped for both. I think the price for just the 16 SSR's was around $37 shipped.

The $150ish for the SSR parts (all 16) from Mouser sounds accurate. I priced everything and the total came to about $166 shipped.

Can't wait, got the soldering heated up already!!

scubasteve,

If you already ordered from Mouser you probably alreay know this, but they have the 3 position terminals on backorder until Feb 8. So you can get your Grinch done and your SSR's substantially done before then, but you'll be waiting like me to get them finished. Have fun.
