This thread details how I made my mega star tree topper

I built the mega tree and am more than happy with the results- all expect for one area, the top look, well, lame.

So with a very short time I decided to make a 3D star and get it up on top ASAP.

The star is based on a template I already had with each cord 250mm long. I wanted the star to be as light as possible.
to construct I took 1/8 MS wire and straightened 6 lengths of 3.2mm diam wire 1.3m long.
I then bent each "side" of the star with about 25mm extra top and bottom.
Once I had 6 almost identical half stars, it was time to weld them on to a couple of 5/18 washers using 1.2mm stick. this is super hard, too much heat melts the wire! I eventually worked out that it is best to push the stick from the washer toward the wire. I keep promising my self to buy a Oxy set.

Once I have to basic star all welded, I added cross braces around the top and middle inside corners.
We the blacked the star with epoxy paint.

I had hoped to be able to use the washers a launch point for some Booker rood, but found too many weld dags in the way. we ended up added 2 pins parallel to the main axis.

I will leave it here for today. I will grab some Photos to demo the construction.

I like the way you constructed the wire frames together so you can see the star on all 4 sides, not just a front and rear view, send us a video of the star in action when you get a chance. Well done

I shot the Tree with the Star last night. I will get a shot of the star soon.
