Would it be possible to switch the mechanical relays on this 8 chanel controler to solid state relays??

Im affraid of these mechanical relays giving out and i want backups. But i though it would be nice to change them from mechanical to solid state because I want my parents to sleep lol

Yes,
it would. the relays are controlled by a BC548 NPN transistor. you will see a LED and a resistor wired to the BC548, as an indicator when the channel is switched on.
The OPTO in the SSR is like that diode. the OPTO is Gronuded by the Controller when a channel is turned on, the same as this board.
The modifications required are:
remove the relay from the PCB,
wire pin # 2 of the Cat five cable to the Collector of the first BC548,
wire pin # 4 of the Cat five cable to the Collector of the second BC548,
wire pin # 6 of the Cat five cable to the Collector of the third BC548,
wire pin # 8 of the Cat five cable to the Collector of the forth BC548,
wire Pin #1 to +12 on the PCB
Wire Pin #7 to Gnd on the PCB
REPEAT until finished.
PLEASE NOTE, increase the OPTO and LED indicator resistors on the SSRs from 680/750 to 1.5k as you are powering the SSRs off 12 V, and not 5VDC.
or
buy a grinch and populate it with 1 IC for 16 channels. that would be less painful, and you could keep the this board as a bakcup.

Well im running off my dads budget. He wouldnt like me changing plans on him. Im not realy getting the pins thing, or much of anything you said lol. Cat5 is the same as an ethernet cable right. The pins are the different colored wires?
