The maximum distance of RS-485 without using a repeater is 4000 feet (1220 meters) at baud rates up to 90Kbps, so you should not have a problem with that device. I have not used the SS24 so check what is required for it's comm. input rs 232 or rs 485.

Hi:
The SS24 can use either RS232 or RS485. USB-RS485 converters are the way to go as RS232 is limited to about 50 feet.

Take a look at the chart at the bottom of this website:

Handy little chart, Thanks I'll bookmark that one.

The two USB to RS485 connectors shown here connect via DB 9 into little boards...do you just ignore them an connected a db9 to RJ 45 modulator?

Ordered on the 9th, still no news on shipping, so be careful. Nice price but if you don't receive it, my guess it's not a great price.

While I have this on order, I also ordered one for 3x the price via amazon (already have a shipping notification on that one).

I've placed many orders with Deal Extreme, and have always received my order.

With that said, the place is SLOW to ship. This close to the start of the season I would not have ordered from them.

They ship from China so its on that slow boat you always hear about. I've ordered from them a number of times and have never been stiffed. It takes a while but not as long as you'd think. Its probably averaged about two weeks. And they don't send shipping confirmations. It'll just show up one day.
