OK, I will admit I am trying to use a sequence from another person. HE has 198 channels , I have 128, So I tried to bring them both up in VIXEN and copy and paste each channel from his to mine, but VIXEN works for a while then gets exceptions. Has anyone successfully used a sequence from another?
The sequences I am stealing are Holdmans which were converted into vix format
I am using vixen 2.5.0.8
Thanks in advance

Have you tried running two Vixens at the same time, it will still allow you to copy and paste between the sequences and it shouldn't stop working.

I have to admit that 70% of my sequences are copied, I have had little trouble copying them. Other then timing issues but I feel the audiance cannot tell, I can but I have to let that go lol. I am using Vixen 2.1 not sure if that matters. I guess to ans. you question most of them work fine for me.

I am currently using Vixen 2.1.4 and have had no problems copying from one sequence to another. I had to do that this year because I added a lot more channels to each house. I took the old sequence from last year and copied groups of channels into this years seq. all I did was highlight the channels I wanted to move from the old and paste them in the new seq. Worked great for me, but I'm not sure if it will work with Vixen 2.5.
Good luck

Have updated the sequences from 2.1 to 2.5? When you convert the sequences from LOR to Vixen they are 2.1.

tweist - Silly question time, how did you :-
Quote "I took the old sequence from last year and copied groups of channels into this years seq. all I did was highlight the channels I wanted to move from the old and paste them in the new seq. Worked great for me, but I'm not sure if it will work with Vixen 2.5."
I have ever only succeeded in copying single channels between sequences by having two instances of Vixen open at the same time, how did you manage to copy "groups of channels", enquiring minds etc :-) Terry

I do this all the time in 2.1 but not with two instances of Vixen. I just open both sequences within the one instance and cut-n-paste away. The timing needs to be the same in both.

It's a three step process:
1. select the cells you want to copy
2. copy them
3. paste them to the destination
You can click on the top left cell in a channel, then scroll to the bottom right, then shift + click on the bottom right cell and it will select everything inbetween (one channel or many). Then you can use Edit -> Copy or Ctrl+C to copy that block of cells to the clipboard, then click in the top left cell of where you want to paste them (within the same sequence or a different one), then use the Paste function or Ctrl+V and it will insert all the selected cells starting at that location. There are actually several different types of Paste functions in Vixen, depending on how you want the cells to be combined into the destination sequence, but the opaque Paste (Ctrl+V) is fine for just copying the data over.
If you arrange for the display order of the channels to be the same in the source and destination sequences, you can copy and paste over the entire sequence this way, or whichever parts you want, all in one operation. There are various ways to set the display order, including manual drag+drop in Vixen, editing the XML file directly, or I have a little utility to help do that if anybody wants to use that.

Looks like you got your answer before I could get back to you. Budude is correct in the way I copied my channels to a new seq. I just open two sequences at the same time and cut/paste. Its really easy. When I create the new sequence, I put the music in first and I use the same song I did with the old sequence, that way the timing is exact. The main reason I had to do this, (move old sequences to new sequences), I added more channels to each of the 14 houses and I wanted to keep them all together for each house. That way I can reduce the number of controllers I am using and the number of Ren-W's.
If you have problems with the copy and paste thing, just let us know and we will give you better instructions.

Thank you all, but BUDUDE hit it on the head ...The timing needs to be the same on both.. SO I went to Sequence --- settings--- and changed the event period to 10 ms which is what Holdman has and it now works ok....
I cannot seem to manage doing more than one channel at a time. so I right click on a channel and select copy to clipboard and then go to my sequence and find where I want it to go and right click that channel and paste....It is tedious, but way better than scripting it all myself.
Thanks all

Hi budude, Don and tweist, Many thanks for your thoughts, I have been successfull to date copying individual channels from one sequence to another, and also shifting "patches" or "selections" from a group of channels within a particular segment of a sequence to another "new" sequence. With a major "re-cast" of my setup this year going from around 80 channels to 256, reorganising the existing sequences to fit the new profile was somewhat necessary!!
Thanks Don for your observation, that is basically how I have been moving things around at present. What I was trying to ascertain was if there was a mechanism to select a group of channels - say Ch's 25 - 35 and copy the complete contents to another sequence in one move. This is possible in Excel as I have done it a number of times without having to scroll to the extreme end of the line, while also scrolling down the number of lines required, if that makes sense!!
Maybe I am lazy and would like to do things in groups and not one line at a time :-) Thus far success anyway, and thanks heaps for everyone's prompt help, the light hanging up time is fast approaching, and still a few items to complete!

I'll be adding channels as well and converting from part Renard, part DMX to all DMX. I know I'm going to use two dongles so I just created a 1024 channel profile and have been mapping everything that I'm regurgitating from last year to that. I copy groups of channels like all of the color of my mega tree and so forth. One little tip is to keep the selection (whether one or more channels) from the previous cut-n-paste and simply use the cursor keys to move the selection up/down and hit Ctrl-C, select the new sequence and again use the cursor keys to move to the new location and hit Ctrl-V. This alleviates the need to select the beginning/end of the selection when using the same lengths and speeds things up a ton.

Thanks budude, I will have a "play" and see what I can figure :-) I had found the "Movable Block" of a selection within a sequence when copy / pasteing, it sure makes that exercise easy and fast. Terry :-)
