I think you all have it wrong.

If you had tested your replies you would have come up with different answers, thus the reason for test.

It's a virus. You get it when you sign in here as a member and you can never get rid of it. It gets worse throughout the year and usually culminates in an extended flurry of activity in the last 3 months of the year. There is no cure.

This has been a test of the emergency Christmas broadcast system...had this been an actual emergency, your GFI's would have tripped, and the power substation feeding your entire neighborhood would have caught fire...no need to run and hide from your angry (and cold) neighbors.

Again, this was only a test...

<bzzzzzzztttt> <fzzzzztttt> <kttkttktt>...

"Hey, why is it suddenly dark in here?"Reminds me of yesterday at work. I was using two VARIAC's and a relay to switch between two different voltages out to an outlet. I Tied both neutrals together at the outlet. That was exactly the sound I heard when I flipped the switch on just one VARIAC. Someone had put a non-polarized plug on one of the VARIAC's and I pick the wrong one of two ways to plug it in.

Well at least now I know that 18 gage wire will actually handle 20 amps though it does get mildly warm.

Hey I heard that sound today also! Had some flickering lights and a GFCI kept tripping. It has been going on for a couple of days and sometimes the GFCI was tripped and sometimes not when the power died in one of the rooms. Thought I had a bad GFCI. Finaly had a chance to track it down today. Discovered the electrician who wired the house never tightened down the screws on the neutral bus, all the wires were just floating in their spaces. Some of the wires had gotten hot enough to discolor the insulation. It was a pretty light show though. Everytime something turned on the neutral wire would spark a little bit. Also found that the tie bar between the left and right neutral buss was not screwed into the buss bar on the left side (of course the neutral feed is on the right side). Wonder if that is what burned out my central A/C compressor several weeks ago. Oh well, cleaned up the wires and contact areas, reseated the neutrals and tightened everything up. No more flickering lights and no more funny noises!

Yipe! Your whole house could have burned down! Thank God for keeping you and yours safe. You should report that electrician if you know who it was.

Um, I think you got your test from the Chinese instruction manual.

Anyway, about this test thing, is it one of those things where instruction 1 says Read the entire instructions before following any other instructions, then you do a bunch of stupid stuff, and the final question is... now that you have read the entire test, as per the first question... do not do anything else.

I always fail those tests.
