USB to RS-485

Hi :) Can someone tell me if this (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.8504)will work fine as a USB to RS-485 convertor?

My initial reaction is that it probably doesn't have any buffering to speak of, so you probably wouldn't be happy with it long term. But it would probably suffice for test purposes.

The HEXIN HXSP-2108G seems to be a more popular model than the "F" version shown in the link. There are several previous posts (also the wiki) where the HXSP-2108G has been recomended. FYI the "G" works at 115k and is USB-485/422 not just 485.

does the wiki site help explain how to make this work on Win7? i can't get there now.

The win7 driver (for the PL2303 chip) from the Prolific website was all I required for the HXSP-2108G. I used v1210, it is now at v130 (http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=31)

thank you for the link, do i have to install anything first, or just this driver?

You unzip the file downloaded from prolific and run the exe. If it finds an existing driver you should uninstall it first then install the new one. If memory serves me that is all that needs doing. You should then look in device manager to check which com port has been assigned to the device.
