View Full Version : How do you stay organized?

I'm curious how others stay organized?
I'm quite happy with my spreadsheet approach to managing channels, hookups, and current, fuses, etc. It was really fast to hook up lights and do repairs/troubleshoot.

But I'm not happy with my method of planning how I'm going to layout the lights.... I repeated the design of my lights 10 times, and every time, I never could really draw it properly. I never knew how much of what to purchase, i caught myself guessing a lot. Luckily i finished in time to purchase what i still needed, and also, i suckered a few friends into getting into the hobby so I sold my extra stuff (a ton of extra stuff) to them. How did you do it? Teach me :) School me! Save me time and pain next year please!

To get specific, i was 50% under on my estimate of SPT1 to purchase, and I never was able to accurately count how many SPT1 plugs I needed, because I had already ordered some, had some stuff 1/2 assembled, and didn't really know what was where.... (I know, it is called subtraction, but I lacked the organization to know what to subtract from what).

Thanks! My first large kite (6 meter) was pink and white, just a trainer, cheap, all the guys give me a hard time about it, pink jokes are right up my alley!

My guess is just experience, not that I have it yet, But the more you (we) do it, the less "extra" stuff we will buy and get just what we need.

I'm just glad the folks in this forum are happy to buy all my extra stuff!

I have made a little poster that I put up next to the Renard64s. It has a picture of the preview with all the channels on it as well as an FAQ and the SSR Plan. I have attached the SSR plan. Its similar to yours. I have friends that want to see how it works so the poster is part of the back stage tour.

Matt that was pretty slick! All on one page even! You don't leave a single spare channel anywhere, that I could see! USE EM ALL UP!
60 Amps... dang... My entire show is 24Amps for 143 channels!
But I think I have 48 channels that only have a single C7 bulb (and 9 of those are single strobes).

Yep, pretty cool layout, Stemple!

The biggest help I had was the printout from vixen, then I used a highlighter to mark each ssr.

I use both a hand drawn layout on graph paper so it can be scaled and an Excel spreadsheet. The hand drawn layout includes the ssr locations although not on the image attached.

The layout and spreadsheet attached are a little old, I have updated both but this will give you and idea of what I do.
