Thank you all so much for your prayers. Now the difficult task of teaching a six year old about diabetes and what it means.

Great news about her recovery, sad to hear about the diabetes, but at least that can be managed.

I haven't been home for almost a week and missed the initial posting but am glad to hear she's now out of ICU and hopefully on her way home soon if not home already. From one father who would do anything for his little girl to another who I know would do the same, our thoughts and prayers to you, your family and especially your little girl.

Take care,

Hi chris
My miss's suffer's from type 1diabetes since age 7, an its never been controlled properly till now, age 27, she's spent more of her life inside hospitables that out of them.
There's a couple of things to allways remember, if she does'nt feel herself, then prick the finger an see what the blood sugar level is at. remember it can change within 10-20minutes.
If she goes low (hypo) some sugar under the tounge works fast,
but if she goes to high, salty chips, or salt water(it works but she might feel sick from it)
there's lots of books on controlling there diet as well.
But remember it's an illness that wont go away, an stopping the medication normaly meens spending alot of time in hospitable. (drum that into her).
my miss's did a book for a school project on it as well, an when she finish's her webpage, i'll send you the link.
the main point is to control Diabetes so it cant control your life.

All the best, an i hope over time she comes to terms with it, it's not a death sentence as long as you keep it controlled.
alec.

My oldest boy (2 1/2) was in the NICU for ten days when he was born. It was absolute torture to see him hooked up to tubes and wires. I sincerely, hope your daughter has a speedy recovery and is able to go home with you soon, Chris. Give her a great big hug from all of us her at the DIYC Community. I will keep her in my prayers.
