So I live along a cliff, and my roof line can be seen for miles. So I put a string (50') of mini's and a few strobes back there. The mini's are just tied to a regularly used channel, and go on and off with the show naturally.... but the strobes, I setup a spare channel (Two strobes, with a single C7 bulb) for them. Now the IDEA was, the mini's flash, the strobes flash, people flock from miles around to take in the show (well the flock part works, people keep coming and parking and checking out the show! My tune-to sign isn't up, but they stay there anyhow....)
But the problem is... shows that worked PERFECTLY previously, now flicker...
SPECIFICALLY:
I'm using COM1 and COM2 with 6 REN16's each
The strobe is hooked to COM2, 2nd REN16, first PIC, channel 2.
The channels that are flickering while the strobe runs are MOSTLY
COM2 1st REN16 2nd PIC, channels 2, 5, 7.
Note: This means, the strobe is causing interference UPSTREAM in the serial pipe.
The corrective action I took (rather than definitively root causing this):
I now only run the roof strobes at the start, or end of a show, and only when my lights aren't doing anything important (Steady or ramping would prevent me from running the strobe). If I'm doing random stuff, then I'll let the strobe run for example.
Just thought I'd share, and see what others thought about this....
