With the 0.7.4 release of OLA I've added support for the ARM architecture, in particular the GuruPlug series of embedded computers:
http://www.globalscaletechnologies.com/c-4-guruplugs.aspx
(I have no affiliation, they just make awesome embedded PCs).
Any of the existing DMX-USB adaptors should work fine, instructions on installing are here: http://opendmx.net/index.php/OLAGuruPlug

No, I don't have the cycles to support multiple platforms. What architecture / distro is the asus? The debian build files are checked in for OLA / libartnet so you may be able to use them to create packages.

I played around with OpenWRT but didn't have much success, I'm not a *nix expert.

Sorry, I should have specified. Just standard x86. I've got a nettop (running ubuntu & xbmc) that I would like to re-purpose a bit during the winter months. I spent a bit of time a while back trying to get OLA running on it and gave up, started looking into a solution using OSC control, ran into semester exams, put it on the backburner... and now your post has rekindled my interest.

I've avoided maintaining debs because it's one more thing I have to do and it takes time away from implementing features. That said, the debian build files are distributed in the tarball so running 'debuild' in the directory should create a set of .debs.
I'm curious, how long ago did you try OLA? The build process has improved quite a bit in the last few months so you may want to try again. Instructions are here: http://opendmx.net/index.php/OLA_on_Linux
