Since designing the original PortaFlood light a couple of years ago, there has been advances in LEDS. One such advance is the 10mm multi-chip 1/2W devices.
PortaFlood1 was designed to operate on 24Vdc only. Since then I an also added 36V to my display.

So ProtaFlood2 is a small compact light that fits in the 150W Porta Flood lights. It can be configured for multiple voltages. It also is fixed to the fixture body, not the front glass.

Feature list:

Small compact.
Uses 1/5 10mm LEDS
Configurable to 12V, 24V or 36V
Single colour only
Simple mounting
Very, Very bright
Even heat dissipation

Prototypes are due in a week or so.
I already have 5 fittings gutted waiting for these little suckers. I will keep you posted.
If there is any interest, these will be available in an off-site Coop.

I thought about a portaflood, but I needed more power...

In that picture, there's something that looks like an unconnected rat between H28 and H29.

THere sure has been some advances in leds.. I've got a 60W led die that i picked up in China on my desk... Yup its bright beyond beleif... Controlling it is a whole different matter and its affordablity is questionable.. One day a RGB one might be available and then we will have some serious Wow factor going on.

Wholie crap...I thought my (3) 5 watters were bright!

That is why I steered away for the 3W unit. With high density LEDs there a fair amount of power to dissipate. It would be OK if I had access to AL Substrate boards. The 5chip LEDs a good compromise.

Nah Mike, just the net was high lighted when I snapped the screen.

Been playing with the 5-chip too, your right, a lot easier to manage, and decently bright.

I have been sooo tempted to populate one of my Portaflood PCBs with some of the 5mm 0.5w 5-chippers... But it would be very expensive and probably overkill.

Maybe next year...

Why is the PortaFlood2 single color when the PortaFlood1 is tri-color?

That is simple. I wanted it more compact and brighter light. My display uses a number of Portaflood fitted with single colour LEDs.

After 6 weeks waiting, it looks like the boards from Sure Electronics have been lost in the post. I was hoping to take them to the Melb Mini.

May be I should have stayed with the guys I know preform well.
