You may want to re-read the first post - it's pretty clear really. This coop is for all of the SS series - the 8, 16 and 24 channel versions. Just specifiy how many of which type that you want (see the previous posts for examples) plus any options like heat sinks, extra parts, etc appropriate for the sets you want.

I have Updated the list in post #2. We are at 118 of the 150 BOM limit in less than 24 hours! I knew it was going to be fast, but WOW!.
There was a small error in the math on the spreadsheet of the first few I did this morning. I believe I have contacted most of you that this impacted. It was a small error and better to have it now then later.
Please look at post #2 to verify your order. the Spreadsheet uses these to calculate the parts quantity.
I will continue sending out invoice totals tonight or you can check in post #2.

Ok, all updating has been made as of 1:30cst. Please review post #2 to verify your order. If you see anything wrong let me know and I'll make the adjustments. I have sent out PM's to everyone with a total, but post #2 is still worth a review.
I will say I never expected it to populate so fast. in less than 24 hours we had 139/150 BOM's allocated. So the next question is: Who's planning the next one?
I will post my next update Monday 3/1/2010 in the evening.
Thanks,
James

Since the parts are interchangeable throughout the SS line, you can always pick up an SS16 or SS24 parts buy, build an SS8 and just keep the spare parts handy. Then when you want to build another, you have fewer parts to order anyway...

If you are interested in any of the ren ss line, there has been a new thread created with a similar name and says "round 2" and "interest".. If you post what you are interested in over there they are keeping a tally to help someone determine if it is worth doing another buy.

Everyone,
I have 1 or 2 payments I am waiting on plus two that arrangements have been made for. I am transferring the funds for Mouser to my account now so I can complete the order. I expect the funds to clear by Monday. Not sure on how long it will take Mouser to get the order ready but I do not expect it to be 1 day! I spoke with Mouser 3-4-2010 and they ran out of PIC's (short 35pcs.) I reduced the ordered amount so the shipping will happen rather than waiting. (April 15 expected wait) I can get the rest of the PIC's from Digi-Key.com for about the same price.
I will get the list in Post#2 updated tonight, I took yesterday off :)

Just an Update, Thank You to everyone who has paid. I have a few more payments that will come in next week, I have talked with those participants and that is fine.
I spoke with Mouser on Friday and the order is being processed. They ran out of headers, so I used 4 position headers to make up the difference in 2 position headers. It is expected to ship this week and I am hoping to get the parts by the weekend. I live in a 1-2 day delivery zone.
Post 2 is updated and it is officially tooooo late to make any changes.
Thanks,
James

Just so everyone knows we are not just looking at these parts and scratching our heads, here is a list of what I got sorted this weekend. I will be tied up Monday and Tuesday for sure. So no sorting will happen. I should get started again Wednesday evening after work. Once everything is sorted to the shipping boxes, I will recheck each person's packing list, secure the contents and ship them. I hope to start shipping out Friday and everything should ship out on Monday the 22nd. I don't expect much to come up. I did have a few shortages so far, fuse clips - one person will be getting some of my personal stash of LittleFuses gold plated clips, the channel terminal blocks were short at the time of ordering so I upgraded to 4 position blocks verses the 2 position ones on what was missing. This turned out to impact participants 33-40 and me. So you got a free upgrade since the blocks cost more. I was short several fuse covers but that will only impact me.

I saw something on TV showing when parts are mailed out from the parts place, they don't count the pieces, they weight them. So, if you have a pretty good kitchen scale you wouldn't need to do all that counting.

James, thanks for the update. I don't think anyone is hammering their computers wondering why you aren't done yet! On the shorts, i hope they are planning to make it up to you somehow.
Thanks for all the work ... so we can play!

Yes, they do it by weight. However, I wouldn't trust a walmart special to do it either. The accuracy needed for some of the resistors or diodes is huge (or is that small). I have looked at a few sorting scales and if I do more of these coops I might get one. several of the parts would not work well for the scale but the loose bulk items would.

Resistors sort pretty fast and if you get the cut tape they sort even faster by the inch.

Yep on tape they do, but the packs of 200 resistors of the 4000 total(291-180-RC), LEDs, terminals (4000), and others, leaves a lot of counting still.

Well, many of you might know by now, but parts are loaded in the truck to visit the poat office in the morning. A e-mail notification should have been sent to everyone except my two Canadian's and the last one to still pay. The Canada bound ones will go via UPS and I will try to get there tomorrow as well.
I feel good about the shipments, everything has been checked, several times, but it got late several times and things happen. So once you get the shipments look over it and let me know if you have any problems. I packed everything in the same of better type of bag/tube that Mouser ships in and I know I packaged the boxes much better than they do. I was really surprised at how some things arrived here from them.
If you ordered a Parts kit, one of the PIC's will have a "colorful" sticker on it to indicate that it has the Diagnostic Firmware on it.
Thanks for everyone who participated I thank you and for those who missed out, a second one is in the works for May/June. Need to allow vendors to restock.

Excellent (got the shipping email yesterday as well) thanks for the good news!
Even more thanks for putting this whole thing together. I can't imagine, but am curious, how many hours were put into organizing, sorting, packing, etc etc etc for all of this!
Now, time to start thinking of what to tell the wife when yet another blinky flashy package arrives later this week... ;)
Thanks again,

Everyone,
I am glad to hear that you approve of the packaging. I will post pictures of the labels and packing as requested later. I was a lot of work, about what I expected. I think total man hours envolved to sort would be around 80-100 hours. I did find a few things to do differently in the future and yes if no one picks up another SS coop I am looking to host another. Not sure when, we have a vacation and the RC Boat Races are about to get kicked off. Originally thinking of May/June but that is just an estimate at this time. Might do a Christmas in July Coop! I will get an impulse sealer for the next one!
Just some crazy stats:
Over 38,000 parts sorted
4100+ triacs
Mouser isn't perfect!
Over 1200 bags were used to sort the parts
I lost count on how much tape was used
140+/- pounds of parts
shipping to participants paid a Postal Employee's salery for a week
PayPal Fee's suck! almost $300
I can count with out using my fingers now, plenty of practice!
Overall it was fun in a wierd way.
Thanks for all those that participated.

Ok, the 3x24S BOM's are all accounted for. I can't recall what was in the spare parts BOM and am not finding the post with its contents for some reason but I assume that's all accurate as well - the 2 extra PIC's and 4 triacs are there. The rest (diodes, resistors, etc) I'm not as concerned about.
Thanks again, counting my order was like Christmas all over again! Though I'm not sure I'd feel the same way after sorting 4000+ triacs! ;)

Wow! I wonder how much solder that will consume by the time you're done. I bought a (I think 10lb) spool of 0.023" (again, I think) solder and figured it'd last me forever but with 24 (sorry, 23) PCB's to assemble, you might need a second spool!
Excellent, thanks again!

Kevin,
That's great! You must live way North! Hard2Kill got his last week in Canada. Glad to see it made it there.
For everyone else, I think all of the packages have been received. I am only aware of 2 minor issues, a 3ea. 680ohm resistor shortage and a small overage to another participant. The additional resistors mailed out Friday and Merry Christmas if you have extras!
I have one more to ship. It is ready to go and waiting on payment next week.
So as far as I am concerned, this one is done! Thanks to everyone who participated and made this group buy a success. For those who missed out, another Renard SS Group buy is in the works.
Thanks,
