Well i found a company that has a great price on these caps. They are really nice piece for anyone who wants to add them to mini lights or use them to house leds to have them sealed. they are fauceted and have a way to lock them onto mini lights if you use them for that reason. there price is really reasonable as well. they are 4.75 per 25 pack. i would ship them out the cheapest way possible. i received 400 to try them out and they do look really nice with a light i them. the price on them are much cheaper than another site i seen and they didnt have them in stock. shipping and paypal fees should still make these extremely cheap esp if your buying alot.

so if your interested please post here and i can work up an order. they ship to me really fast, so it should only be about a 2 week turnaround or so.

heres some pics, i hope to get some tonight with some lights lit up in them.

so post if your interested an how many. i hope to get a order ready here in about a week or so.

.19 cents each.

QTY Price
25 $4.75
50 $9.50
75 $14.25
100 $19.00
500 $95.00
1000 $190.00

so that is a quick price ref. just take how many you want time .19 cents. price doesnt include shipping which would prob be around 6 bucks or so. international would be more.

Nice! Do they come in colors, too? It'd be a lot easier designing everything with all clear lights and when you want a different color, just slip on the caps instead of having to completely rewire the display with another color.

Do you have any idea on breakdowns of orders for 100, 500, 1000, etc?

sorry they carry no colors. they only have the clear. but that would make it nice.

unfortunatly there is no price break for the more we order. they come out to .19 each but i just figured it was easier to put 4.75/25 lol. so if you want to order a odd number there .19 each. im def buying more b/c i may put them on my mini strings in my river of lights to give it a bigger look. It would also be nice for people who do lights around there windows to give them a bigger presence.

There's another thread where people found some similar caps that were available in colors, but didn't have the faceting these do.

fathead - got your PM, sorry I haven't gotten around to it yet, been a busy week!

I'm not yet ready to commit to a groupbuy of these, but definately interested in a small handful for evaluation of compatibility with PLCC-6 SMDs. (I'm likely ordering a pile of those from Topbright tonight.)

So, let me get this straight - they're 19 cents each? As in one? So, to buy 100 of them for ONE 100-count string of mini's, would be $19.00?

Just seems a bit crazy to me. I would think a better price could be found - I have seen RJ45 crimp on plugs, MUCH more complex, with metal (often, gold plated) inserts, for 3 cents each. I wouldn't mind paying 3 cents for the faceted caps, but 19 cents just seems a bit high.

Is it just me?

While I understand not wanting to pay .19 per cap, you really can't compare it to an RJ45. This is a specialty item with certainly a much higher production cost per unit than an RJ45 Plug that is manufactured in the Millions. I think there are also other ways. I have 25ct C7 GE LED strands that I got for 2.75 on closeout at lowes. They have very similar --if not exact, caps to these.

I gotta think these will be very valuable in water proofing the RGB Pixel setups Entropy (and I think others) are working on.

And... you couldn't pay me to use a 3 cent RJ45 :)

what do these look like installed?

o i know roger, they are kinda pricey but the other site is charging almost 7 bucks for 25. i am pretty happy with this price compared to other ways to waterproof rgb strings. im looking at needing like 2000 of these, but trying to find something comparible is really rough.

ill try to get some pics up tonight or by this weekend with them installed on some mini lights.

Would it have to be a cap?

It seems to me that a simple silicone mold could be made (maybe copied from a faceted cap or current LED bulb) and injected with epoxy. Then there's the question of whether it has to be C7 or C6 or something less.

This is more likely to guarantee that it's waterproof. The DIY factor goes up too.:D

I've been toying with this idea a bit, and I'd think the right price might be in the 5-10 cent range per cap. I see it as a quick way to change a whole display in-the-field without rewiring. You'd build everything with all clears and then color them as you needed. It would also provide the option to change the look of the display completely at-will.

That said, however, a new string of minis at 2c/bulb each is still a lot less: $8 to restring a 400-light minitree vs. $20-$40 for the caps doesn't make a lot of sense IMO...

Alone they're not enough to waterproof an RGB string, but they would be a GREAT way to improve the visual appeal of something like the strands aussiephil is working on (which are basically PLCC-6 SMDs soldered to ribbon cable.) They'd also probably go well with the nodes I've been working on to improve the emitter-to-circuitry size ratio a bit, and just look prettier in general.

The question is if, for large quantities, we can get a discount. 19 cents/each isn't too bad for smaller projects, but as has been pointed out, it adds up!

let me see if i can try harder to get them cheaper. find out what the qty is needed to get a greater break. i was talking to him at around a 4k piece order. maybe if there is more we can get a better break.

I'll take 100 of these to try some experiments with. Let me know the total $$ you need.

At that price i already have a good option, that is costing me 20c per LED landed at my door.

I got a price today on the clear non-faceted ones at around 10c each for 4k plus shipping.

Every cent matters when you start talking 5k lots.

I would however be in for whatever quantity will fit in a $15 flat rate USPS box just to test and maybe do as Ernie suggests

well i got to 3.50/25. i add pics of them on the 100 count mini lights. now my only problem with them attaching to mini lights are they do not go down all the way. you would need to put a dab of hot glue on them. maybe it was just the set i had. ill try to snag some pics but if many people are not interested ill just order for myself. ill get those tonight and i hope to get my PLCC-6 leds in a week or so and see how those look.

ill post when i get more info.
