View Full Version : Ren24LV Parts coop interest

Now that the official Ren24LV PCB coop has started and I am participating in I am interested to know how many people would be interested in joining a parts coop for the ren24lv. As everyone knows there are savings to be found in coops and if there is enough interest I will be facilitating the coop.
If you are interested in joining and this is for planning purposes only please post the qty you would be interested in.
This is an interest only post at this time but if there is enough interest I will start one so we can finish the coop close to when the Ren24lv boards will be shipped.

Will this include the on-board transformer? I'm powering mine with external transformer. Either way, count me in!

I purchased 6 of the LV boards and 28 of the normal HC ones (need to build a bunch of myself and some family members) If the price is cheap enough I am interested, otherwise I think I can get a decent price direct due to the amount of boards I need to build.

I should add that I'm planning on using the Ren24LV to run some of Frank's RGB LED super strips, so I won't be needing the on-board transformer (I plan on using an external 5V power supply). Will that be an option?
Also, depending on the price, I might bump this up to 2 sets.

OK, Give me a week or so to knock out some work stuff and I will do a co-op if no one else does it.. I wasn't sure it would be worth it, but it definitely looks like it there's enough interest to get us to a stage that would make it worth it.
I ran a Ren 64 co-op and made the transformer an option. I'm guessing we could do that here. I might even look into having two options for transformers for those running superstrips or Mighty Mini Floods.
Keep posting interest levels and I will use this to judge.
Keep posting interest levels.
Edit...
Sorry, Misready Rich's first posts. I thought he was looking for interest.

We are up to 29 at the moment and this has only been posted for about 8 hours. If this interest keeps up I will be posting an actual coop with possible prices by late Mid week. If you think your interested post as the more orders we have the cheaper it gets fro all.
Also the Transformer is listed in the BOM as a required part on the ren24lv so in keeping with the rules for the coop it would have to be included.

Rich,
If this comes together quickly then I would be interested in 1 kit, preferably without the transformer.

Well guys we have what I feel is the minimum interest to get this coop off the ground Currently we have just over 50 kits that people stated they would be willing to purchase.
If your interested in ordering more keep on posting to drive down the coop cost but I will start a new post and begin to work up the price.
I should have this posted by Thursday.
When I quote shipping this will be for those in the US only. I am willing to ship to areas not covered by USPS Prioirity mail but the reciever will be responsible for the costs as they can not be covered on the flat rate boxes. If anyone out of the US needs special shipping we will deal with it one on one.

Everyone Please read the Group buy rules Item 4a. which is pasted below.
" 4a. The intent of rule #4 is for all Group Buys to be for a single list of parts as required to populate a fully functional circuit board. The list must be complete and include every component that each participant will receive. Additionally each participant must receive every component on the list. "
As the BOM specified by the board designer specifies the Transformer the Jumpers and the sockets for the ren24lv all participants would receive all the parts listed in the BOM.

As others have mentioned, is it possible to make an option for on board or off board transformer? Since my goal is to use this board to drive Mighty Mini floods, I don't need the on board transformer, just the 47ohm 10w resistor Frank mentions in this post http://doityourselfchristmas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7663.
Also, just a thought, dunno if we could get a break on the external transformers, http://www.circuitspecialists.com/prod.itml/icOid/9590. They show a price of $12.00 at 100 units, maybe we can get that price at a lower qty...

The Single qty price of the transformer from mouser is $4.30 as we work up the pre order count we are at a price of $2.68 ea transformer. If we have 100 kits ordered the price per transformer drops to $2.41 ea. The idea in a coop is to have one list of parts.
I know there are some people who have there own plans and options on how they want to hook up there boards I am one of them people but I to have to get the parts in a coop that I do not need.

As RichF mentioned in his last post, there are set "RULES" for group buys. One in which is he must provide the entire BOM as it is listed and everyone MUST receive it.
The only way he might be able to get around this is by hosting the group buy off the diyc site, in which he may not want to nor have the capabilities of doing so.
trying to help clear things up.. just my 1/2cent FWIW.
I personally think it would be great to not have to purchase the transformer also, but I am willing to so that everyone can stick with the rules that have been put in place for a reason..

At less than $3, I would agree that it would not be worth it to have multiple BOMs.

I am sure that I'll be saving more than the $2 & change by being in the coop. So whether or not I use the transformer, it is STILL a good deal.
Besides, you never know when you just might need a transformer for a project. :D :D :D

Could you post the BOM for the board? I've seen 2 different BOM's for this. The one I used had some extra parts that were not needed. It was also lacking a fuse cover, which I think would be a prudent addition (if a transformer is to be part of the BOM), regardless of whether or not it is on the original BOM.
RichF

I am going though the BOM that Frank has specified for the board and yes there is some extra parts. I am working with frank to get the BOM straight. Also there is no fuse cover. Yes it would be a good safety Idea but I do not know if mouser carries any that would slip over the fuse area.

Don't worry about it. I am just trying to stay in the good graces of those who run the board and to make it easier for me also.
We are at 65 kits so far and that is a good savings I would like to see 10 more kits then the savings in price is something you will have to see to believe. So keep coming I am finalizing the BOM with frank and should have the official coop posted soon.

I believe the same one that works for the SS boards will work, but it's a tight fit.

All the BOM for this possible coop has been updated. A single BOM listed above is in the area of $34 from a supply house. The coop will be cheaper. Currently we are at 65 kits if we can get 10 we hit the next price break.
Also in any of the prices I am listing there is no shipping included in the price, and we all know shipping is not cheap the kit I ordered a few weeks ago to buildout a ren24lv and use for packaging tests was 10.00 in shipping from the supply house.

I need to go though my parts pile, but as far as I can tell from emails, I purchased 4 Ren24 LV boards, and I don't think I got parts for them, so I'd be in for 4. I may add an extra or so if I pick up any more PCB's and/or it causes the price to drop.
