My suggestions for the past few years:

They are not all classic rock, but there should be a couple in there. Be sure to check 2008/2007 as well.

Mike:
Your 2008 Al Hirt song caused me to find a really great CD -- Sleigh Ride! Classic Christmas Favorites -- that I just bought at Amazon.
For 2010, I'll have three programs: orchestral traditionals, jazz traditionals and electronic fun (I guess I'm breaking down and actually including a TSO).

Woot! Glad I could help!
I try really hard every year to find off-the-wall kind of stuff to sequence to. There is more to life than TSO!

There is some good stuff in there, I am not sure if I will have any TSO in my show this year. So far Chris Rae Driving home for Christmas looks promising. Oh and my intro will be Gary Newman Cars cut down to 1:47
Thanks

John - that was the very first song I started to sequence in Vixen to...didn't ever finish it, but probably will for next year. Sure learned a lot, as I was just barely starting out...

I use inflatable characters in my display. So many of my songs are of acapella christmas music that the characters sing the individual parts. Takes time to sequence them but they work well. Gives me a choice of music that not everyone else uses. Groups like Rockapella, Tonic Sol-Fa, and planning on using songs from Muppets this year. To see examples goto youtube and search for Hughes Digital Christmas.

I found a website called "freeplaymusic.com (http://www.freeplaymusic.com)" that has a few songs. I particularly like one called "Holidays in the Country". Has a sort of circus sound to it kind of like the "Baby Elephant Walk", lot's of "boompa-boompa" so it might be nice to sequence to. Not for everyone, but I plan on having one set next year, specifically for the kids, and this will probably make it into that set.

As far as free I've always liked this music.
http://garritan.com/Xmas.html
Welcome to the 6th Annual Garritan Community Christmas Album, a unique musical project. A community of musicians from all over the world met on the Garritan community forum and agreed to submit their own recordings of holiday music, to be freely distributed. Each of these orchestral recordings were made not with large live orchestras in vast recording studios at huge expense, but rather were created by a single person working on their own desktop or laptop computer. What they have in common is the use of Garritan libraries representing software musical instruments based on samples of real instruments.

I'm not sure if you would call this a remix/classic rock or not, but I found Decorations by Bob Rivers to be fun.

Yep that was a good one I used that for 2009. I am looking for songs with a led zeppelin, pink floyd ect feel. I may just have to mix my own song have been searching and for the most part Do you hear what I hear is my only bite so far.

I used it last year & it was great, although listening to it every 15 minutes for 30 days (We were usually outside greeting visitors) it started to grate on my nerves & became my least favourite song by the end of the month lol
This years songs (I think) will include:
Advance Australia Working Class Man
For the sake of our brother
The House on Christmas Street
Still looking for a classic rock song for this year, as I have done Will Will Rock You and the Time Warp in the last 2 years that were BIG hits

Same here
I found some great comical Christmas parodies from Bob Rivers.
Song titles include:
Get Off Of My House (Rolling Stones - Get Off Of My Cloud)
Takin Care Of Christmas (Bachman Turner Overdrive - Takin Care of Business)
Decorations (Beach Boys - Good Vibrations)
Toy Stack (B-52's - Love Shack)
I Am Santa Claus (Black Sabbath - Iron Man)
O Little Town Of Bethlehem (The Animals - House Of The Rising Sun)
And plenty of others too...
I was thinking of maybe having three separate shows. Traditional, comedy and TSO. Got the comedy and TSO covered, just need to find some traditional songs.
cheers, FJ

I found this song today and thought of using it myself and thought what all you thought about the difficulty of sequencing it and if you liked it. (i know that it isnt what you were looking for but i thought someone may like it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhFSjfmlI9Y

This will be my second year with an automated display, but the first to sequence with music. I love "Go Tell It On The Mountain" by Needtobreath.

Im about halfway through sequencing for 120 chanels and its taken me about 4 hours so far ;( Got to say Id rather build the hardware than do the sequencing.....

Since someone else bumped this....
I'm in the process of updating my library and going through it for my 4'th annual suggestion list. When I'm done I'll post a link...
I added another 3,100 songs this year and I'm through about 2700 of them. I should have the other 400 done tonight. A quick peek shows that I have 60 songs right now that have made the cut. I'll whittle that down to 12 + 6 or so comedy tracks.
Unlike last year's "50 Kilowatt Tree", I am sorry to say that I have not yet found something that jumps out and screams 'must sequence'.

What makes a song a "Spiral" version? I do like the versions of some of these songs. The only thing I have found is the kids don't like Instrumentals.
After hearing Spiraling's version of Do you hear what I hear I have decided to use it as I said previously.
Now being a good citizen etc. I tried to buy a legal version off iTunes. It is not available off the Australian store and I can't create an account on the US store because my email address is registered on the Aus store. #$#$%^%$#@
I will either have to use my wifes email address (not that I am trying to hide my spending) or create a dodgy hotmail one or similar.
Like I said before #$&^%$#@&
Sometimes it is not worth being legit.

No, we aren't allowed that as we are out of the USA. I can see that I will be getting myself a hotmail account. It will come in handy for other things as well so it isn't a total waste of time.

Electronic Version is not your only option. Just buy a CD that has the song and either Rip it or find the exact song and download it. I physically own the CD or LP for nearly half of my IPOD music. The "legal rights" come from my ownership of the CD or even old LPs. I think technically, the LPs are not good because it wasn't a digital format to begin with, but I OK with what I am doing. At some point, I paid for just about every song on my IPOD. Either download, CD or LP.
Make an effort to be legit and you will be fine.

In my opinion a Gmail account is alot better than a hotmail account.
And I also consider an LP as owning the song, even if you acquire a digital version off the internet for free.

I have receipts for digital downloads or physical media -- LPs, commercial cassette tapes, commercial CDs or commercial DVDs -- for all 2000-ish songs in my iTunes library. Wife has been suggesting that I sell the LPs, but I tell her they're my ace-in-the-hole should the RIAA come knocking.
