That pink cord looks pretty fishy to me :P

After chatting with LRNeener for a bit, He set me straight on the proper fix for my particular issue,... A picture is worth a few hundred words.

What was your issue? Is the criss cross if the resistors a mistake on the pcb? I am confused as to what is going on here with the little info in this thread.

I am using the REN-T to send signal to my ren24. I was not getting any action to the lights. The power LED on my board would light up. I felt that I had put it together correctly. Then I saw a note in the eratta for REV 2 PCB that the rs485 traces were swapped. I went on chat and found LRNeener who told me of his fix and I applied it to my situation. It worked and I was giving credit to where it was due.
LRNeener fixed my issue.

So when not using the ren-t you shouldn't have to apply the fix?

I don't know that,.....but take a look at the erratta notes. It does state that the two rs485 traces are swapped and this fix seems to address that problem.
There has not been much discussion involving this board concerning how they address certain problems and fixes that were encountered during assembly and setup.

After reading up on this issue it seems as though the problem Mud was having trouble with and fixed by crossing the resistors is specific to Rev 2 of the Renard 24 pcb. I have Rev 2.5 and this issue was fixed on the board itself. That explains why mine is working fine and I had never seen this issue before.

I also have 2.5 good to know thanks.

maybe you were using a cross over cable

I made up all my cables to the spec that appears in the wiki. I even made a crossover to see if ground and data were swapped with no result. It works (so far) now with the fix detailed in previous posts.

i just used standard patch cables out of my ren-t to my renard 16 and they worked fine. I am putting together my 24

Just so you know my board is a 2.5 as well

The Ren64, Ren16, and the Ren-C should all work with the Ren-T without any mods. The only boards that may have a problem are the Ren8 and the Ren24, and think you will only have the problem when using case 3 on the Ren-T build. I will do some testing tonight.
I also have the Rev 2.5 board. I am using the Ren-T build case 3 and the Ren24 with the crisscrossed resistors
Brian, how do you have your RenT set up?
Thanks

What would you need a Ren-T for with a Renard-24? It has a transformer built into it.

To convert RS232 to RS485 for greater distance to the first Renard24, or possibly for providing zero-crossing for downstream Ren64, Ren8 or Ren-C, or power for downstream Ren8.
But in the simplest situations, you don't need it.

The ren24 has pins 4/5 reversed from the rent and ren64. The ren24 has the pinout the same as the ren8.
Revision 3.0 has the pin-outs changed, but, i have not placed any orders for the board.
All shipped boards are r2.5 - wjohn is the only person with a v 2.0 board (green)

Okay i did some testing with the Ren24 and RenT with a 10 sec fade up and down in vixen.
With the Ren24 Resistors criss crossed.
It workes with the Ren-T built to case 1, 2, or 3
With the Ren24 Resistors not criss crossed.
It workes with the Ren-T built to only case 1
If you have more than 1 Ren24 you will only need to do this to the first Ren24 in the string, and only if your using the RenT to drive it.
Thanks

Thanks for your testing Camron... I'm sure this will be a big help. ;)

It IS a big help because I switched the resistors on the second board while I had it out and it no worky now,......ugh........ gotta change it back on the second board. Thanks for the testing.

Changed it back and it still does not give a signal to the second board. How would it be set up in the plugins,... I have it setup to renard, channels 1 - 48.

I also tried renard 1 - 24 and renard 25 - 48 with no joy.

Did the second board work when hooked up by its self?
It will also all be on one Renard Plugin as channels 1 - 48.

That's the rub,.. I did'nt test each board individually before I banked them together. I am now testing with the diagnostic firmware I will post results as soon as I get it done.
