I realized quickly that I could not use my personal laptop to run the show.
I stole my sons computer and just couldn't stop the comm errors. I purchased this Acer nettop for $200 dollars it worked perfect. I struggled with the transmitter. I ended up using a different power supply because of noise. I put one Balun on the antenna cable and still had noise from my sons's audio card. It went away with the nettop. I didn't like the having the open breakout boards from the rs485 adapters. I saw them packaged in a project box on a posting I was reading. I built it with my own with a twist. The Goodwill store is a great place to get wall warts, I got one for my transmitter that was better than the original and one for my zc for my Renard 16's. I Put a connector on the project box to plug in the power supply and I put a fuse on it, thinking more about it I'm going to put a led on it for an indicator light. I used the modular RJ45 connectors from HD or Lowe's and put the rs485 adapters through the side of the box All of the wiring is inside the box, nice and clean. I changed versions of vixen this weekend from 2.1 to 2.5 Just to check out dimming curves and had no problem for my last two shows. I'm completely satisfied with my show computer just in time to tear down the show. I can't wait until next year.
