Vixen 2.0 Not Compatible with Vista 64

Please forgive me if by chance I am not doing something right, but I tried installing ver. 2.0.3 on a Vista 64 PC and i got the same errors as I did with version 1.1.

Has anyone successfully ran either version of Vixen on a Vista 54 machine?

The problem is in the Fmod DLL. Since Vixen is written in C# .NET, the executable should run where ever there is a .NET runtime environment. However, Vixen takes advantage of the Fmod DLLs. While Fmod Ex is compiled in 64-bit, Fmod is not. Vixen uses both. I have attempted to make a full port of Vixen over to 64-bit (I have been running all 64-bit OS's for a few years now) but unfortunately cannot with Vixen. I have solved my problem by using a Virtual Machine (www.virtualbox.org or VMware) to install a 32-bit XP install and run Vixen that way.

According to fmod.org, there is a 64 bit version of the API.

You may try downloading the package yourself and seeing if you can get the 64-bit version working.

It won't work. There are two versions of Fmod. Fmod Ex and Fmod 3. Fmod Ex has a 64-bit DLL. Fmod 3 does not. For some reason Vixen uses both. You can download the Fmod Ex DLL, rename it to fmodex.dll (from fmodex64.dll) and replace the fmodex.dll in Vixen's directory. This will allow you to start Vixen. However, when you go to play the sequence, Vixen will crash saying it failed to set up the sound card. This is because it is attempting to use the 32-bit DLL on a 64-bit system. Unless KC eliminates the need for fmod.dll or Fmod releases a 64-bit DLL for Fmod 3, Vixen will not work in a 64-bit operating system.

Yepper I had this same problem with xp64 Pro ( essentially win server 2003) Vixen gave up numerous errors then shut down, maybe I"ll try this on another machine running 32 bit xp pro

Ok, KC is working on this issue.. he has solved the fmod issue, and Vixen will run on vista 64, with updated files... But it still will not play audio so he is still working on that. Hopefully soon we will have Vixen X64 as well.
